The course of study for our program is multifaceted, because we want our students to be able to find employment in as many fields as possible. With this in mind, we focus on the mastery of concepts pertaining to the creation and effective operation of international organisations and institutions, such as the UN, EU, NATO, and OSCE. Students can also study the workings of a state, all the way from local administration to national governance. We offer students a chance to play a meaningful role in questions of minority affairs and regionalism while also teaching the theory relevant to these problems. This three-year bachelor’s program doesn’t only create well-qualified potential employees out of our students, but also prepares them for further studies and specialisation in political studies or law.
• Introduction to Political Studies • European History • History of European Political Thought • Contemporary Political Ideology • Theory and History of International Relations • International Organisations and Institutions • History and Theory of European Integration • Policy in the European Union • International Public Law • Introduction to Geopolitics • Global Economy • Foreign Language (English and German).
Throughout their studies, our students become adept in a multitude of fields, making them very flexible when it comes to finding a job after graduation. Graduated students have often successfully found jobs in EU institutions, helped in their efforts by the experience they gained in program-organised internships. With their degree, students are able to find jobs in many different fields within the EU. Another field rich with job opportunities for Sapientia’s International Relations and European Studies graduates is the national government, whether in local administrations or in federal offices. In most government bodies, the Romanian government guarantees the use of the Hungarian language, placing a high demand on our graduates. Furthermore, civil organisations and political parties present great opportunities for jobs in administrative or consultancy positions.
Every year, our students participate in the Student Academic Conference, in which they show off their best work by presenting research results and essays of high merit. Besides this, we also organise an annual academic conference, attended by international and Romanian scholars, with themes that address everything from broader, European issues to the Hungarian minority in Transylvania. The University Nights lecture series has top scholars and public figures in the field of politics come deliver talks to our students, giving the students a chance to hear about a career path or see what it’s like to work in International Relations while also learning about contemporary approaches to research.
The Tutor Program has a longstanding tradition in the International Relations and European Studies program. It allows for interested students, under the guidance of a professor, to complete their own academic research and present their results at the faculty’s annual Student Conference. Those students that win awards at this conference automatically qualify for the biennial National Student Academic Conference.
Every year we organise a trip to Brussels, which has become Europe’s unofficial capital city, so that students can experience the European Union’s institutions first-hand and get to know the people working there. The summer camp hosted by our program is also worth mentioning. Students attend lectures and seminars about Hungarian, Romanian, and EU politics, while also playing sports or partaking in other such spirited camp activities during their freetime.
Ferber Miklós, Professor of Faculty of Technology Industry at the "Eastern Michigan" helps the Sapientia University from the beginning as patron of the specialization of International relations, European studies. Due to its aid, faculty could launch a $500 scholarship per year.
